Indulging in Luxury: Thai Square Spa

London – the hard life

Living in London takes a toll on you. Sweaty commutes, long working hours and bustling social lives – London life is hard sometimes (*wink*)!  And that is exactly where Thai Square Spa comes in.

On a Sunny Friday morning, my best friend and I headed to Northnumberland Avenue – only minutes away from Trafalgar Square – where the seducing fragrances of incense lured us inside Thai Square Spa. We were invited to try one of their treatments, something which we did not mind at all!

We were way too early  (putting a Swiss and a Dutch together equals German ‘pünktlichkeit’ times two), but this didn’t matter, as we were warmly welcomed by the spa’s staff. The entrance hall was beautifully decorated with oriental plants, Buddha statues and golden murals.

The ultimate form of pampering

After a short introduction, we received our spa clothing and got changed in the large dressing rooms. There are separate dressing rooms for men and women, and they include showers as well.

Hereafter, we were invited to take the large white staircase down to the relaxation room. The most relaxing chairs you can imagine, atmospheric lights, and Roman-like pillars were set up in this area. We were kindly offered a (non-alcoholic) drink and waited before we were called in for our ritual massage treatment.

The relaxation room did itself credit as we almost dozed off before our treatment had even started. Wouldn’t it be that we had so much to catch up on, it probably would have happened, I am telling you! Luckily, after some minutes, we were called in by our masseurs. We walked through a long corridor which was again lit up by atmospheric lights, and there was a friendly Buddha statue greeting us at the end.

Then it was time for our treatment. Our masseurs used oils with healing components and with delicious fragrances. The treatment rooms were kept almost dark – there was only a soft light creating a serene ambiance. It was a completely tranquilizing experience, and the hour went by before we knew it.

Again, we were offered a drink before we left and had the opportunity to spend some more time exploring the spa. The historical building used to be a Turkish bath, and while walking around there, I had the feeling that in building the spa they respected this fact to the fullest while giving their own touch to the design. I can only say that it works.

The spa has several treatment rooms, a sauna and steam room, an ice fountain and Jacuzzi, a salt house and a beauty bar. I am sure to come back one day to try any of the other treatments on offer. And now I have been able to sample the body lotion and body polish of their new product line: ‘iMantara‘, I will most likely end up going back there to get my hands on some more!

Thai Square Spa is one of these gems in the heart of London that seems so out of place, but so totally right at the same time. If you are looking for a luxurious haven to completely relax that is a feast for the eye at the same time, I would highly recommend a visit!

Author’s note: the spa treatment was sponsored by Thai Square Spa.  However, opinions are all my own. Pictures were kindly provided by Thai Square Spa.
