Travel Wish Wednesday – Amalfi Coast
I am sure that many of you have a long list of places you wish to visit. Of course I am no different. Some places far, like South America and New Zealand, others slightly closer by, such as the Amalfi Coast.
On Travel Wish Wednesday we’re shedding a light on these bucket-list destinations with the help of some inspiring Instagram accounts.
Why the Amalfi Coast?
So why am I so keen on visiting the Amalfi Coast? You know I am a massive fan of photography. I am just an amateur myself, but looking at these stunning pictures of colourful houses stacked against rocky hills and deep blue seas make me want to jump on the very first flight over. Of course Italy’s lovely climate and Amalfi’s famous fish cuisine make it even move up higher on my list.
Sorrento (Sorrento Excursions and Tours) is highlighted as being the gateway to the Amalfi Coast. It is where most people stay (Sorrento Hotels) as it has easy connections to not only the Amalfi Coast, but also to the historical site of Pompeii and offshore to the island of Capri. It also offers brilliant views of Vesuvius, and the hills in the area just scream to be hiked on. Can you spot the Vesuvius in Jessica’s picture?
Positano to the east is the most picturesque of all the towns in this area. Looking at pictures of the town it almost feels like the terracotta, pink and orange houses drop into the sea like a waterfall. It is incredibly beautiful. Just look at ‘Poladamonte’s image on Instagram:

Day tours to nearby islands depart daily from the towns on the Amalfi Coast, and ferries connect the coastal towns with the islands as well. Capri, Ischia and Procida are the islands in the Bay of Naples, of which Capri is supposed to be the most popular.
Of course a trip to the Amalfi Coast would not be complete without a tour (Pompei and Amalfi Coast Excursions) to one of the world’s most fascinating archaeological sites. The ruins of Pompeii remind us of the eruption of nearby volcano Vesuvius, and how a town of huge significance in the Roman times could be destroyed so quickly. I believe it would be a fascinating place to visit.
When to visit?
Apparently accommodation can get fully booked in the high season, and the hills and beaches are full with people during the summer months. However, when you visit the Amalfi Coast in the off season it could just be that there are no tourists in sight. Like what happened to the girl behind the ‘Pure Wander’ Instagram account. Yes please!
